Summer 2020

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

Greetings FL Family!

I want to start off by acknowledging that our country and world is going through many hardships and changes right now, but as a team, my hope is that we can bring light to each other's lives through dance and friendship. We will have a very unique year ahead and will need to remain flexbile and patient throughout. Amidst it all, I am hopeful that we will still make the best of our time together as a united Dance Team.

For members of the BIPOC community, my heart goes out to you and your family and friends. As an Educator and Director, my goal is to continue to learn and help share knowledge and stories that educate and guide our community towards a brighter tomorrow for everyone. To begin, I recommend anyone interested in learning more about the current Social Justice Movement to attend LBJ's Town Hall meeting this Thursday:

***Please use the link below to register for the event, & provide questions for the panel: When: Thursday, Jun 11, 2020 06:30 PM CT Topic: LBJ Community Town Hall Meeting-Social Justice Please click the link below to join the webinar: Password: 8Phuds

I hope that you all continue to learn, share stories, be kind, and stay safe. Know that I am always here if you ever need someone to talk to as well.

Next, I would like to take a moment to recap from our team meet from last night.

We are set to have a team of 24 next year! Please give it up for all of our Officers, Vets, and Rookies!

Here's a sweet intro video from our Dance Officers!

I also announced last night that LBJ has received the approval to hire a new Dance teacher to begin Fall 2020. LBJ is currently going through the application and interview process. Once the decision is final, I will introduce you all to our newest member of the team. When LBJ and LASA split, after next year, the plan is for the new teacher to stay with LBJ, and I will teach full time at LASA. I firmly believe this will be very positive for our team because we'll have another leader to help think outside of the box and create a successful year ahead.

Last, I am holding off as long as possible to decide on our summer team camp and purchasing for hats, boots, and other essential items like practice attire and shoes. As of now, we do not have approval to do in-person camps, but thankfully there are a ton of virtual camps. Camp is important for our year for many reasons including: team bonding, leadership development, dance technique, and choreography for our seasons. I am hoping to make a decision by the end of June, and thank you in advance for your patience. Our Dance Officers are moving forward with a virtual camp with MA July 13-14th.

Until then, please continue to strengthen, stretch, and dance as often as you can. As a member of the team, you are required to do at least 10 hours of dance classes throughout the summer (not including camp) so that you maintain your technique and artistic development. Please reference the document below for a large online resource for free and low cost dance, yoga, and fitness classes online. If you would like to take classes through CLI Studios, please follow this link here (this gives you member access to all of their content) Once you complete all of your hours, please fill out the Summer Dance log by clicking here. Submissions are due by August 17.

Our next event to look forward to will be our Squad Reveal! As soon as the Social Officers and I have those details finalized, we will share with you all.

Once again, please feel free to reach out to me anytime you have questions. Email is the best way to communicate with me, and I will check it each week throughout the summer. Students AND parents, if you haven't already, please join the Remind group by texting @3ccf7g to 81010. Occassionally, I share reminders through this app for last minute reminders and emergencies, but I do not have the app on my phone, so all texts you send go to my email.

Until we meet again, enjoy your summer and be well. I am so thankful to be your Director, and I look forward to getting to know our new members and seeing our Officers and Vets lead the team.
