Meet Mrs. Washington!

Greetings First Ladies Family!

I am so excited to welcome and introduce you all to our newest (returning!) member of the team, Mrs. Washington! She will be the LBJ Dance Teacher and Director beginning this summer. We will work together for the 2020-2021 school year while she continues to develop and build the LBJ Dance Program. She is extremely passionate about dance and the LBJ - LASA community, and I know that she will be a wonderful leader for our team.

Mrs. Washington was raised in Austin, TX where attended elementary through high school. She graduated from LBJ/LASA High School in 2004. She attended Lamar University in Beaumont for two years and then transferred to Texas State University - San Marcos where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Dance in 2009. She later obtained her EC- 12 physical education certification. She is currently enrolled at Texas State University - San Marcos pursuing her Masters Degree in Education Administration with an expected graduation date of May 2021.

After college, Mrs. Washington worked with A.C.E. after school programs teaching dance to elementary aged children in East Austin. From there, she became the Engage Dance Team Director at Austin Community College under the office of Student Life. She then transitioned into a career of public education in Austin I.S.D. as the Director of Dance at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. Mrs. Washington eventually left high school teaching to become a full time Middle School Dance Director at Covington Fine Arts Academy and later, Decker MS Fine Arts Academy in Manor ISD. She now returns to her alma mater LBJ ECHS to direct the dance program.

Although Mrs. Washington has performed and choreographed for various different dance groups and companies, her true joy comes from teaching dance to those students that wouldn't normally attend dance classes in a professional studio setting. Mrs. Washington believes that every child no matter their socioeconomic background should have access to the art of dance and high quality instruction.

Mrs. Washington has been married for over 10 years to her wonderful Husband Ronny and she has two beautiful daughters Lyric and Ziva.

Feel free to reach out to her and introduce yourself via email at:!

News Update: It was announced that AISD will be completely virtual for the first 3 weeks of school. Given the continually changing information, we must continue to be patient with our planning for the year. However uncertain and unique this time is, our Officers are excited to teach and socialize with you all very soon! Please keep our original home camp dates, August 3-6, available for a Virtual Camp experience. More details will be sent at a later date.

Please also help me congratulate our Dance Officers on completing a FIRST EVER Virtual Officer Camp with MA Dance! They took many various dance and leadership classes with instructors from all over the nation, and in the comfort of their own home. I am very impressed with their charisma, creativity, and leadership already. You are all in good hands, and I look forward to seeing all that we accomplish this year!

Our Social Officers, Carrie and Dakota, are also putting their creative brains together to create a Virtual Squad Reveal. Please save the date for Wednesday, July 29th at 4PM to meet who will be in your Squad this year! More details will be sent soon.

As always, I hope you are well and taking time to enjoy as much as you can each day. Stay in touch with one another, and please reach out anytime to myself and/or Mrs. Washington for anything!

Best Wishes and See You Soon,

Ms. Edwards
